Cost and funding are two different questions and they get tangled together constantly. The first is what a month costs. The second is where the money comes from, and that one has a different answer for almost every family.
This page is about the second question. It sets out which sources of funding can be used for a room at Sursum Corda or Gladys' Place, on what terms, and what happens if circumstances change part way through. Where an answer is not on this page yet, the gap has been left visible rather than filled in with something vague.
The state licensing disclosure both houses post (UDALSA, June 2025) lists private pay and long-term care insurance as payment options at Sursum Corda and Gladys' Place, and Elderly Waiver, CADI and BI as considered after a three-year private-pay requirement. Gladys' Place also lists Housing Support (GRH) for Elderly Waiver / CADI residents. The sections below take each in turn.
Private pay means the cost is met from the family's own resources: income, savings, or the sale or rental of a house. For most families this is the starting point, and the questions that follow are how long those resources will last and what happens when they do not.
Two questions come up here more than any others: whether Minnesota's Elderly Waiver can be used toward a room, and what part Medical Assistance plays if private funds run out.
On the Elderly Waiver, the answer is in the state licensing disclosure both houses post (UDALSA, June 2025). Elderly Waiver, CADI and BI are listed as payment options considered after a three-year private-pay requirement; Sursum Corda's disclosure adds “not guaranteed.” Gladys' Place also lists Housing Support (GRH) for Elderly Waiver / CADI residents. Neither house offers a sliding scale or a federal rent subsidy.
Two further sources come up regularly: benefits earned through military service, and a long-term care insurance policy bought years ago that nobody in the family has read since.
Long-term care insurance is listed as a payment option for both houses in the June 2025 state disclosure they post, and Gianna HomeCare accepts it.
This is the question families are most afraid to ask, and the one that deserves a written answer rather than a reassuring noise. What happens to somebody who has lived at Sursum Corda or Gladys' Place for four years when the private funds are gone.

Ask for the answer in writing. Anything to do with money and benefits is worth having on paper before a move rather than after one, and that is true of every home you speak to, not only this one.
